    Help -- 1100 Zxi

Recently rebuilt my 96 Zxi. Used Crank, new pistons, cylinders bored, used head. Ski was together and running good. Rode it several times with no trouble, but I guess I forgot the locktight on the exhaust bolts because when I let a friend ride it, the bolts came loose and the ski filled up with water.

Got all the water out and ran the ski with flush attached for a long time. Thought everything was ok--wanted to take it out and ride to make sure it was dried out, but rained for days afterwards. When I finally got a chance to start it up again--nothing. I was afraid the engine was locked up, but I can turn the engine by hand.

I can hear the starter solenoid engaging, but nothing else.

Any ideas on what to check next?

    Thanks in advance.

I dried it out before I ran the ski the first time--but I'll check it again.

"I can hear the starter solenoid engaging, but nothing else." Lets clarify this.........jump the two posts on the side of the electrical box. Does the engine turn over. If not this would lead us to believe the starter may be bad. If the starter motor is spinning and the engine doesn't turn over it is probably a bad or stuck starter drive [bendix]. Do you hear a clicking noise[solinoid] when you hit start or a whirring noise, which is the starter spinning and the bendix not engaging. Hope this helps......

I'll try jumping the leads and see if the starter turns.

Have you tried another battery? Cleaned and tightened the connections?

Good idea Steve. Sometimes forget to check the simple things first.

Common thing is the bendix in the front case stuck from corrision. Does the starter motor spin? if so look at the bendix. If not look at the reley or starter motor. most likley bendix espicaly with water intrusion.

I've got to travel out of town for the next 2 weeks, so I'll have to put this project on-hold until I return. Thanks for the suggestions. I'll update as soon as I return.
