    excessive fuel consumption

I purchased a 2002 yamaha xlt 1200 last winter. I spent all winter redoing the engine ,carbs everything the ski runs fine but it seem as if I am always getting fuel. 20 mins of running = a quarter tank of fuel I don't see any leaks. What am I missing..,

    Thanks
    Jay

If your running wide open throttle for 20min straight you would be surprised at how much fuel you will consume,my gp800 is rated at 12.6 gph at wide open throttle,so I'm sure the 1200 is even higher

You have got a problem somewhere. If its using that much fuel how is it even running. pull your plugs to see what they look like. is it cavitation and what is your top speed.

    XLT Fuel , oh yes.

    2003 XLT1200 owner's manual clearly states on page 4-23

Fuel tank capacity 18.5 us gal
Fuel consumption at WOT 17 us gal/hr
Cruising range at WOT 1.09 hours

Sooo.....After running for 20 minutes (1/3 hour) at WOT you should be using 5.66 gallons which is actually over a quarter tank, its about 3/10s of a tank. Your observations are pretty close.

The XLT is a gas hog!

I love mine, but it is expensive to ride.

I learned pretty fast how expensive riding wot gets, now I mainly ride around at 1/3 throttle which gives a nice 40ish cruising speed and it doesn't consume much fuel

If anyone has performed a test to figure out how much fuel this ski consumes at lower speeds, I'd love to see the results. I plan on doing a say,,,1/2 throttle test myself soon, if I can, I post it here if I do.

He didn't say he was running full throttle but even if he was and comparing it to the xlt i owned that sounds like a lot of fuel. my 1390 ported triple piper uses about that much fuel in comparison. and if his tank holds 18.5 gallons of fuel that is 4.625 gallons of fuel in 20min.........come on guys give me a Break........

IF YOU ARE RUNNING AN XLT AND YOU ARE USING 4.625 GALLONS OF FUEL IN 20 MINUTES YOU HAVE A PROBLEM.

If it was consuming that much fuel just casually cruising around there would either have to be a big noticable fuel leak,or an inaccurate fuel gauge, because you would figure consuming that much fuel would be fouling plugs and it wouldnt run fine.how do u ride it,are you takin it easy or riding it like you stole it.are you pulling a tube?
