My buddy had a 2002 4tec and while it was crazy reliable it was also the most boring ski I've ever ridden. I had another buddy with a 15F that he did some mods to and it was a little funner. Seems like it ran 65 MPH or so.

Can he save up and get a 2011 VXS or VXR? Those are faster/funner N/A platforms than the others mentioned. They have about the same performance as a RXP 215 in stock form.

n/a 4tecs are very reliable from everything I've seen (even my s/c one is!). My friend's 15f has had an awful lot of problem for a 4 year old ski without a power adder.

They're both base/close to base model skis, neither will be horribly fun in comparison to a VXR or s/c ski.

Yeah, but the ski tops out at 52 MPH. Not a lot of engine strain there

I had a 2003 185hp SC'ed GTX (same engine) and it was fine and reliable for a long time. When you start running into issues with the 4tec power plant is when you start running over 10 lbs. of boost and higher than 8400 RPMs. The N/A skis are NO where near that. I bet that 02 4tec will outlast many a ski.
