    1998 SLTX Ignition issue

I have a 1998 SLTX 3 cylinder Domestic engine. I get very intermittent spark on the PTO cylinder. I have swapped the ignition coil primary wires and the intermittent spark also moved. This has eliminated the ignition coil and spark plug wire and boot as the problem. My thought is that it is the CDI box. Does the CDI box get a "fire" signal and a "sync" signal from the Hall effect switches or the exciter coil and then the CDI box fires the ignition coils in the correct order? Or is there a separate ignition coil fire signal for each coil? I just do not want to buy parts that I do not need. Thanks.
    Mike

Do you have the original or updated ignition system. If you have the original, it is highlt advised that you do the update regardless.

Um, if I am understanding you correctly you swapped the PTO ignition coil primary and secondary wires with those for another cylinder, and the problem moved to that other cylinder. If this is indeed what happened, then that indicates that the ignition coil IS the problem.

He only moved the primary, which would indicate the coil is good.

That is correct. I swapped the coil primary. It is the updated ignition system.
