Broke my RIVA intake grate RXPX?!? (pics) Opinions/options?

08' RXPX ~140 hrs (I got it the week it came out, runs perfect), Riva Stg. 1, Riva exhaust, free mods, 15/22R repitched by Eric at Speedfreaks

So, I've been chasing a loss of a few MPH of top end since last year. I've only been seeing high 71's to low 72's (GPS) at any given time. I did the standard; check the pump, cleaned up the prop, replaced the wear ring, checked compression (although RPMs are spot on at 8060ish depending on temp), etc. with no real results.

I went out on lake St. Clair (the first time I've taken a ski out there vs. a boat) last weekend (quite an adventure with this group I met). After running some shallow cuts, I decided to get under the ski and check it out today (I was bored). To my suprise, I see the grate is BROKEN! wtf?

I assuming this is my speed loss, but if true, it has been broken for 2 summers! It wasn't hanging down at all, the tines were just shifted about 1/4 an inch. Do you guys think Riva will warranty a 4+ year old grate? lol

What should I get to replace this. I would like a little more "hook up" than this Riva had, but I don't want to lose top speed. Worx?

They all (riva) will break like that sooner or later... Too much hull flex for the cheap ass casting job.

+1 You are a lucky man not to find it by inspection and not something worse.

I know! I've heard of them ripping out of the ski. Could it get sucked into the prop? omg!

So, someone has suggested the "R&D Closed Course Intake Grate for X model 255 HP skis". I know it says "max. hookup without sacrificing top speed". Anybody run this has any comments? I'm gonna buy tomorrow.

edit: I see an "R&D Intake Grate for 255 X model Skis - new X Pro Series Aquavein Intake Grate ". Claims to add 3mph? Any comments on this one? More like the Riva maybe?

Also... do you think I should redrill the pump shoe holes in the new grate, or seal the pump shoe holes and leave the grate alone?

    For sure!

I always look underneath, but you wouldn't notice it until you were directly below the grate. It wasn't hanging or anything, just skewed... at least right then. Who knows what it was doing as I was riding.
