This would be the stub shaft that holds the impeller onto the stator assembly?
Were the internal bearings still in good shape when it failed?
Note: Replace with new bearings and new seals when you rebuild with a replacement stub shaft.
First guess would be a bent stub shaft or a mis-aligned engine/driveshaft or incorrectly installed jet pump.
Possible debris crunched through the jet pump and forced past the impeller?
If the engine is stock and you are not riding crazy then the stub shaft is generally a reliable part.

Thanks K447 the pump bearings failed before do you think the shaft in the pump was damaged? The bearings were in bad shape when I did the rebuild I did not replace the stub shaft but replaced bearings and seals.
