Questions About Re-installing Factory Intake Grate on 2005 RXT

So today I had my RXT out and had an amazing time. The ski was perfect and at the of the day, we parked it at the dock so I could back the trailer in the water. My son started to ease it up on the trailer and we noticed a weird noise when he depressed the throttle. He immediately turned the engine off and I hand cranked it back on the trailer with the winch. After pulling the ski out of the water, I noticed we sucked up a sardine looking can. It never made it past the impeller and the wear ring looks good.

I get home and took the intake grate off and noticed the bolts look like they had red loctite on them and the front of the grate where the larger bolt is had some type of black silicone or rubber sealant between the grate and the hull. I was wondering if blue loctite is ok to use and if I put waterproof silicone caulking where the black silicone rubber was if that will be ok? Do I need to torque the intake grate bolts?

    Thanks for your help,

    Jay

This is from a 2008 RXT shop manual but should be the same. Yes Blue Loctite, torque correctly is very important not to strip out the brass inserts. Notice the rear bolts are 97 INCH pounds not FOOT pounds like the front 19 Ft-lbs!!! IMO, the Right Stuff is not necessary.

Do you know where I can by this sealant? Do I need red loctite or will blue be fine? Do I need to torque the bolts?

NEVER use red loctite on your intake grate bolts...especially on 04-06 model years...i personally never use loctitie on my bolts BUT if you chose to then go with the blue...

I bought the Right Stuff sealant and it seems to have worked great. I couldn't find a torque wrench that could go as low as 97 inch lbs. I ended up using blue loctite and tightened the bolts down until they were snug. Do you think that will be ok?
