    pro 1200 vs. slxh w/ 1200 conversion

Hello, I have a question for the people who have owned or ridden both hulls. I have an '01 pro 1200 w/ a great motor but hull needs painting and new turf mats, etc. A guy is selling an '98 slxh for cheap. I was thinking about putting the motor from the pro 1200 in the slxh, and then selling the 1050 stuff. How can you compare the 2 hulls. I know the slxh hull is faster and the pro hull turns better. But is it that much difference in the rough water btw/ the two? And I have heard people say the slx hull is more forgiving and the pro sprays you in the face w/ water. I don't care about turning, but am interested in the tradeoff of top speed and rough water handling. I ride at a lake that is usually rough but sometimes smooth. Which hull do you like the best? Would a pro leave an slx w/ handling mods in the rough water? And either way I go, the ski will just get bolt-ons. I won't run any aftermarket carbs or pipes, just handling mods. So how would you compare a stock pro 1200 to a slx 1200 w/ aftermarket rideplate, intake grate and sponsons?

    Thanks, Aaron

As far as I am concerned, there is no comparison in the rough water handling. The pro is much better. The speed difference is maybe 2 MPH, not enough for me to give up the handling advantage of the pro. The pro makes high speed turns better without scrubbing as much speed as well. Then again, I won't give up my pro for anything. I think the pro will stay hooked up better in rough water for sure.

Okay thats what I was looking for. So the only thing I need from the slxh is the gas and oil tanks then. What else do I need to install these in my pro besides the tanks themselves? (pickups, lines, etc.)? I would like to have the 12.5 in there. What year in the slx did they start w/ the 12.5s?

You will need a fuel tank cradle from a pro 785 to replace the one in the pro 1200. You also need the fuel filler hose from an SLX.

i believe the pro1200 tank cradle could be reworked and glassed into the correct center position.i'd go pro1200 with the 12.5 tank, and damn it i want pics of the build up of the gas tank mods.i would expect the ski to handle even better with the centered up tank.paint the top deck royal blue and get some exotic signs graphics for it.

I would have done that to mine but I have plans for triple pipes. I dont want to have to undo what I did.

What parts are interchangeable btw/ the '98 slxh and a '01 pro 1200? I know if it has the update ignition kit that the cdi and stator will work. What about the carb, choke linkages, pump, trim motor and stuff like that?

Most parts should be interchangeable. Differences would be impeller, the trim motor in the Pro is a fast trim motor, Im pretty sure the SLXH is a slow trim motor. The carbs on the 1200 are bigger I think than the ones on the 1050.

Would it be possible to convert the trim motor from the slxh to the pro? Also my choke lever doesn't pull. It may be broken? Would that be compatible?
