    98 XPL stock compression

Did a search and read some post. Wasn't sure of compression reading for a stock 98 XPL. Thx

How many hours on the engine. It's a fresh build? Wich base gasket did you use? Those are things that could matter when talking about stock comp. IMO with a 5 hole base gasket 150.psi is sweet. But I've read that 120-130 psi it's still good.

Hope this helps. I'm no expert. Pretty sure others will chime In with some good advice.

My 98 XP had a stock compression of 125 psi. As long as the numbers are close to that range you are good. Just remember, different gauges will give you different compression numbers so it is more important that the numbers for each cylinder are even.

Yes I understand about them being within 10% of each other but, I've never had a seadoo and wanted to know what is a representation of what a stock ski with say 90 hours would be. Thx

130-135 psi should be the number you get on any 951 with stock uncut head. The pic below is from a motor with brand new top end. That is newly bored and honed fitted to pistons with 0.0055" clearance and 0.015" ring gap. Cylinder is completely dry with no oil applied during assembly. Motor has never been even started yet. This number will not change until a substantial amount of hours has been put on ski. Unless something occurred to cause damage.
