help evaluate borescope pics. about to stick piston?

so i was out riding my 1200r the other day, all seemed well. boat has a dplate, premix, wave eaters, 30 hr pro x pistons, 30 hr crank seals, carbs rejetted by rich(wfo), K&N flame arrestors (120 mains, 110 pilots, primer, no choke, ect)

i was riding about 40, just crusing back to the dock, it shut off on me. i fell off my plane and started it back up and rode another 100 yards, and it did it again. now it stops starts fine, has 120psi compression across the board, but number 3 plug looks like this

while 1 and 2 look fine.

so i got a borescope and did some looking into it

    number 1 looks fine

    oils in there

    2 looks fine

    and here is 3

first off, the wash looks different

    good so far

    and heres the expensive part

so time to pull the head i guess.

the bore scope is actually pretty neat, this is the link i got it off of.

The bore scope is pretty neat and you can't beat it for 20 bucks. I might have to get one of them. As for your ski that sucks and as someone that is the same age as you I applaud you for sticking with it. It's a lot of coin to be putting out for a hobby during college. I don't know what's wrong, but do you think it's got a leaky crank seal that's some how just enough to make that 3rd piston run a tad hot? I forget why you tore the head off last time, it was because the head was leaking right?

Maybe you should pressure test the engine before you take the head off. Maybe you'll find its not holding pressure.

Yeah ill pressure test it before it comes apart. Im going to be quite surprised if its crank seals, but at this point id believe anything.
Im graduated from college too so im just stubborn, can't use the dumb student thing as an excuse now

I had that same sieze on a Kawasaki 900STS in the middle of the TX winter on my first ski ever. Would get up on plane and then flat die. 30 seconds to cool and it was up on plane only to die again. I could idle in as long as I stayed below 30 mph but it was quite cold (about 45) that day. Learned how to replace my first shortblock after that. Now I wish I would have had the balls to just pull the head at the time but live and learn. Good luck and thanks for the scope links. Gotta get one!

no problem. i hope to get the rest of the exhaust and carbs off today so i can pressure test it before tearing it apart.
