2 stroke question. 700 runs but has little miss then dies.

Working on a 700 2 stroke. fresh rebuild. sbt crank and .50 over pistons.

    It runs. fires right up.

But hold it wide open in the water, you can here it miss a little then when you get off the gas it dies.

After that if fires right back up but runs a little rough until it clears up.

Tried fresh gas. (it has 2 stoke oil in the gas and has a working injector Per SBT requirements on new parts)

Planning on getting fresh plugs and trying that.

Anything else I need to check into?

What year and model do you have? Some years had ignition problems. What was the reason for the rebuild? Have the carbs and entire fuel system been gone through?

I was reading a tuning article (not polaris related) the other day and noted that one issue that some machines have is that they run fine fully open, but then go lean when the throttle gets backed off to 80% or so because the lower circuit doesn't re-engage properly.

Could it just be going lean? Looked in the cylinder with a pen-light yet? Do a search for piston wash.

fuel lines are replaced. carbs have not been touched.

Rebuilt due to improper winterization. (Rusty lower end)

It smokes a lot right now with the extra 2 stroke oil in the gas. could that be the issue?

Probably not. Did the ski have to grey fuel lines initally? If it did, there may be some gunk in the carbs. Open the carbs and have a look and give them a good cleaning, checking for any damaged or deteriorating parts.

It did have the gray lines 2 years ago. I will pull the carbs and give them a good cleaning.

Be very careful with the internal filter in the carbs. its very easy to break.

I pulled the carbs and they looked very good. just a little junk on the fuel inlet screen.

I did notice though that the oil injector lever was not springing back. turns out the spring was not connected so the lever was staying full open all the time.
I think that's why it smokes so bad.

Would this be my problem? going to go try it out in the water.

That could cause the smoking yes.
