    2006 FX HO Cruiser Motor Removal/installation

    Hey guys,

    I have to change the stator on my FX HO so i've been doing a lot of research/reading. Figured i'd start it this week.

    Removed everything needed to pull the motor. Removed the engine mounts bolts (think I should have left the bolts and lifted the motor and pulled the shims. Hindsight.)

    Couldn't get the shims out or even see them so I lifted the motor just a little bit and they all fell out Took four out of the front and two of the back. Guessing 1 on each side in the back and 2 on each side in the front.

    Assuming the shims are for alignment of the coupler? What's the proper way to figure this out on reassembly?

    You don't have to completely remove the motor to change out the stator, but that is the best way. Be prepared for lots of oil when you open it up. Here is the coupler alignment page from the manual:
