Thread: Project XLT1300

    Project XLT1300

Got a steal on a 2002 1200XLT complete with a blown motor, and a good deal on almost everything to put a EFI 1300R motor in it. So not quite as nice as a 4 stroke, but it is an EFI 3-seater that should serve well as a family fun toy.

As I picked it up. Will need some new seat covers too, body is a little rough but nothing too bad.

What we saw along the way home...

My daughter is excited about the new toy, even though she won't be riding for a few years

What was left of the 3rd piston and con rod, found in the bilge

Did some damage on the way out

    Anyone want a 1200PV motor?

1300R powervalve servo mounted in XLT location with XLT cables

Siphon hose wasn't long enough to reach the ground with the tank in its location, so had to drain some gas to move it back into the engine location.

Hull clean and empty and ready for the new motor

Using the GPR tank for now at least, made a brace out of Azek to hold it in the forward position

My daughter doesn't know there is no motor beneath her.

too cute.. good luck with your build.. I'm watching carefully in hopes to one day do the same with my 1200XLT and blow the doors off my in-laws 1300R.... (-:

Thanks! Not planning much in upgrades this year, maybe in the next few winters.

E-box mounted. GPR battery cable switched for (much) longer XLT one.

    Barometric pressure sensor mounted

Steering sensor mounted somewhere out of the way

ECU and slant detection switch mounted

Custom throttle cable, made by replacing the short lead from the throttle lever to the splitter on the original 1300R throttle cable with the XLT1200 throttle cable. Plenty of length now.

You will want some more air in that XLT, I installed a second air intake behind the front seat to match the one on the right side using a used air tube. Had to relocate the flush fitting a bit. Also drilled a few holes up in front of the seat where the seat fits in the front supports. My XLT would suck the seat material in when revving on the hose so I know it was starving for air. It only has one air intake up front while the GPR has 2.

I'd thought about that, I have to see how wet it gets when in the waves and find somewhere to open up.

Ready to put the motor in

    Winter

My daughter is ready to get on the water

Picked up a reverse bucket as partial trade for some of the 1200PV parts

I guess this project wasn't completed?
