2012 Gti engine/hull cut out hole exposed fibreglass

Hi all, just purchased a new git130 during the run out sales and have noticed once taking off the seat that there is exposed fibreglass. They must make the top half of the ski and then cut out the hole for engine access etc.Anyway the cutout is not painted. Inside hull is painted just not the cutout. Is this normal as was worried about water ingress and slowly delaminating the fibreglass / gellcoat. So if required to be painted what to use gellcoat or a marine paint?Gets used in salt and fresh water and looks like water does leak in from the rear of the seat.Cheers

All of their skis are made that way. Wait until you work on a bunch of these skis, and end up with itchy arms from rubbing against the exposed fiberglass as you reach into the engine bay.....

Thats really poor in my opinion, its the little touches that can set a product apart. So i may just sand it back and seal it then Going to put in a builge pump dont fancy getting itchy/scratchy, what to use paint or gellcoat?

For just the sake of not destroying your arms, I'm sure any paint will do/last to cover the exposed fiberglass. Not like you'll see it when the seat is on anyway.

I may take this up myself as a winter project.

My 2011 GTI 155 Limited is the same way, seems common with newer models. I have heard of folks putting painters tape around that area to keep them from getting 'itchy arms' while working inside the engine compartment. However, not sure tape would be a good long term solution.

The paint idea seems like a good one - which type of paint?

Also, if we don't paint and completely seal these area will the exposed fibreglass area start to break apart, rod or expand or in any way yield a problem down the road? Thoughts?

I'm thinking about getting some 2 pac epoxy paint in white and putting a few coats down sanding and building up till its a nice smooth surface. I'm more concerned about the water leaching in the fibers and delaminating it over the next few years. But the tape seems a good short term solution. Remember to clean the surface good with acetone before painting....
