    Which ski:FX1800 or VX110 or FX160

Hi all....been a while since I posted....I sold my FX140 a while ago and want to buy another ski....my choices are as follows:

    - new vx110 - 20% over budget
    - 2008 FX160 with 110 hours - on budget
    - 2010 FX1800 HO with 130 hours - 10% over budget

It will be used for playing around with family and friends.

I am leaning towards the 1800 but am concerned about the hours...is that high for a 1800? The owner used it for fishing so it is mostly trolling hours.

Any concerns over the 1800? Thanks....all help appreciated.

I don't think those hours are high at all. I have friends that put that many hours on the HO engine every year. Go for the FX!

How many years/hours do you need it to run?

Well, he is talking about budgets. It might be the case where he's saved up and this ski will need to last a looong time. If so, maybe one of the lower hour/smaller displacement skis might be better. If not, go 1.8L.

Those are not high hours at all. What I would do is drill down deeper into how you are going to use the Ski. If you are just going to be "playing around" with family and friends with only 1 or 2 people on the Ski at a time, I think the VX110 might foot the bill here. It is a 52 mph Ski under even the best of circumstances. The upside is this Skis legendary ability to go 2,000 hours (and beyond) in usable engine life. 52 mph is a little slow though for some people so beware of that.

These other 2 Skis you mention may not get to 2,000 hours, but they will certainly go hundreds and hundreds of hours if well taken care of. These Skis will have a better top speed and will ride better with 2 people on it.

I don't see a "bad" decision here regardless of which way you ultimately decide to go. If it were me, I would go with the 2010 FX1800 HO. It is the best all around pick of these 3. And, I do think the Brand choice is a wise one here. JB

This is essentially why I asked the question.
