    1996 zxi 1100 ?

so i picked up another ski. a 96`zxi1100 another low hour ski. all stock except a r&d intake grate. also picked up a parts hull without a motor. swapped all the cosmetics over and will be parting the rest out. what i want to know (yes ive searched) is what are the best mods for this ski? seems like a lot of conflicting info. i was going to mod like the ultra, shredmaster plate, beach house sponsons, etc. seems the shredmasted is not so good on the zxi? what is a good setup? im aware of the handling issues with this ski.(and it does have the factory fix, bolt on bowl thing on front??) some pics.Click image for larger version.

Could you post a picture of the nose bowl for future reference? I've tried to explain it a couple of times, but a picture would be great.

The best mod is to put that 1100 in a 1995 Seadoo XP hull. Rad Dudes makes the billet conversion plate for it.

    1996 zxi 1100 ?

From what I read, the stock '96 ride plate is the fastest, but mine was bent from a wave washing the ski off the trailer as I was pulling out of the water. It made the ski teeter from side to side while up on plane. I replaced it with a later model plate that has a sharper edge and is a little longer. Feels much better now and rarely will it porpoise like before.

Sponsons are a great addition. It will turn harder than you can hang on.

There are several impellers available, back in the day the Nujet was the fastest. I replaced mine with a Solas because I sucked up some rocks, but the Nujet would cavitate on a hard holeshot sometimes.

Mill the head to get the compression up instead of wasting money on aftermarket, just don't go over 150psi compression. If your trying to get over 62mph, replace the pump shoe with the '97-'03 version.

So are ZXi 1100 ride plates compatible between all years? I've been searching for a definitive answer but haven't been able to find one.

Kind of. I had to leave out two of the small bolts that attach the plate to the intake grate because the holes didn't line up. The front, center two holes are about 10mm wider on the '98+ plate.

This isn't exactly an engineering drawing but you can see it in this comparison. The holes where the 59446A/B is pointing to are wider apart than the '96-'97 plate.

The way R&D got around this is they didn't drill the four center holes at all.
