    Thermostat Advice (08 RXTX)

    Hey Guys,
Looking for a bit of advice here. Going to be doing some work on the ski over the winter. Im looking into changing out the OEM thermostat housing and want to know which is the best way to go. Should i just buy the Riva one in the store and just change the thermostat, or should i buy the Rotax 131 Degree one and change the whole thermostat housing! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

My mods so far are in my sig.

IMO cold water skis should not use a 130 t-stat the 160 will keep the motor closer to the design spec

Go with 160 thermo, heat exchanger and then you can put a moded or riva ride plate on.
You would see good gains with your setup with open loop moded plate IMO

As skidoo said 130 thermo is only needed in the heat and usually ran with some open loop setups.

use the 160 stat.. i have the Riva one installed on my ski and it works well... or use a stat from a mercrusier 3.0L engine ... do a search the part number will come up....

Thanks for the replies guys. It never really gets very hot here, so the 160 would certainly do. I only ever run in salt water as we dont have any fresh water close too us. Have never considered open loop before but it`s something i might think about. Thanks again.

160 will be perfect for you.
I would keep it closed loop with a heat exchanger and then run whatever ride plate you want.
With your power, pump and hull setup you should see good gain with moded ride plate being a riva or oem open loop plate.

I got a DIY thermo, works well and heaps cheaper than the riva (and you need a press with the riva)
