Why can you not fit a external intercooler on the gtx sc non intercooled model?

I don't think you would get enough air volume without the sc..Like putting one on a naturally asperated car...

You can put an external intercooler on a GTX SC (non intercooled engine)

Talk to Red Devil here on the forum. He has done it.

    Hey nickdog,

Hulk is correct, I put one on my 04 GTX SC LTD and it runs great. Lots of room in our big hulls for it too. Why did ya think it could not be done?? What year do you have anyway?

Yes nickdog you can put the intercooler in a GTX SC. The only reason it is not recommended is because the GTX has cast pistons and not the drop forged pistons that are in the RXP and RXT, the GTX limited also has the forged. It will probably be alright but just not recommended. What do some of you other guys think.

I have heard just about every myth about why not to use the intercooler and none of them have panned out. Granted, cast pistons are weaker than forged, but using an intercooler will have zero impact on the pistons on whether or not to use an external intercooler. About the only thing I have not done to my ski is port the heads and it runs like a beast. One thing is for sure, when I go that route, I will then go for the forged.

    Hey Red

I know you have done this 100 times but I have a 03 SC that I have been debating on to trade or do more mods I am leaning towards more mods unless I find a great deal. I think the next thing for me to do is add the intercooler and ECU I would like to see your list and which intercooler you have here is what I have and would like you opinion on what I need to run 69-70

    04 pump
    solas PPG
    riva air intake
    SC impeller
    no opas
    GPS 64-65.5 depending on temp

    Here's what I've got for about $4K:

RR Heavy Duty Clutch (NO BOV)
    RR External Intercooler
    RR ECU
    RXT/RXP Fuel Pressure Regulator
    Race Tech Plumbing
RXT Shaft and RXP Impeller (just installed and need to test)
Filled Ride and Grate plate holes
    Riva Sponsons
    Vortech S/C Impeller
    Riva Blockoffs
Modified air intake to front storage compartment and drilled swiss cheese holes in shell beneath the hood for air flow
Modified Riva Intake Grate (Removed fins and knifed bottom edge)
    Bilge Pump
    Boost Gauge
    Oil Pressure Gauge
    Solas Impeller

By the time I had my $$ in mods, I was in to deep to try and trade for anything else and I'm glad I didn't. Granted, I paid $12K for a stock LTD, but I've enjoyed modding the crap out of this thing.
