    ACR Personal Locator Beacon (PLB)

Updated - with the price on these where they are now, they are a no-brainer for the offshore rider / racer.

Don't they go bad after a certain number of years? (something relatively short, like 3 years?)

Coincidentally, I'm working on a mag. article regarding recreational endurance riding. My research found this site: http://www.oerentals.com/index.html. The PLB rental prices for a one time or once a year usage seems like a fair and/or cheap alternative to buying.

    Thanks for mentioning this topic.

Regarding the battery - I believe it is two years for inspection and replacement or replacement if it is used, it will need to be replaced by an authorized dealer.

I have the ResQLink+ and its 5 years after date it goes in service or 6 years after manufacture, whichever is first.
What's nice is these can be taken with you on whatever boat you get on or they can also be used for hiking in remote places as well.
