I bought this 96xp last February and have repaired/ replace
Impellar with 15/23 concord solas
engine with another used engine
Speed O/dream O
seat cover with marine rated vinyl
99spx 40/38i carbs with prox
Next on the list is a R&D head to raise compression
I posted some recent pics and one from the day i brought it home

I will definitely need a higher compression head. I did a cold engine compression check without any oil and I had 147 psi in each hole. Isn't that kinda low for a 787?

Nope, right on the money. They do respond well to mods though. Do a google search for seadoo racing handbook, there's a good section on motor mods. A shaved head, aftermarket or dried out pipe, impeller, and flame arrestor will really liven things up.

Thanks man for the info, I will do that search, I do have a good clean used R&D head on the way. I am thinking of putting a set back pump off a 95 xp on the 96xp. I own a 95 717xp and love the way it handles. I could do a swap between my skis but I wanna keep my 95 bone stock. I would end up having to change driveshafts, steering cable, go to a bearing seal carrier, and vts extension rod to make it work. I may be leaving out a few details. An aftermarket pump extender may be a lot easier. I would love to ride a 95xp800, that would be the best of both worlds LOL!!

I am trying to get my prox tuned enough to idle on the trailer here are my specs
99spx 40/38i carbs with accelerator pumps
80 gram springs
low speed adjusters 1 1/8 out
hs adjustors 1 out
Any one ever ran prox on a 98/99 spx with accelerator pumps?

Well, my primer valve isn't working that great, i used the accelerator pumps to prime the engine, have the L/S's set at 3/4 out that seem to get it running well, I plan on hooking it up on the hose so I can run it more than 10 seconds at a time. Gonna need a tiny tach as well to set correct idle.

Update, i got my R&D head today. Gonna bolt in on once i get a couple of quad rings to replace, may as well replace all the gaskets while in in there.

I installed the R&D head and it yields 170/165 cold engine compression, according to my gauge. Does higher compression engines need raised jetting?

???? Premium gas 93 octane, okay for 170psi compression?

I found some good used cosmetic parts to install from a former owner of a 96xp. I have a hood topper with a XP logo in mint condition to install, Also a set of handle bar covers without the black dots all over LOL!! I bought a whole box of parts for 50.00 which included
Handle bar covers OEM
New Vts boot
OEM intake grate
hood topper with mint XP logo
R&D power plenum F/A (gonna use it on the 717xp)
A safety manual that BRP published that came with a new 96Xp
I think 50 bux was a hella deal!!!
