Thread: polaris SL780

    polaris SL780

    i bought a SL780 the engine is pretty much gone it threw a rod basically all i can salvage are two cylinders and two cylinder heads from the short block engine i was just on ebay and seen a couple SL650 engines can i drop one of these into my SL780? will i need new carburetors,inlet manifold,exhaust manifold, electrical box?

    I would send that 780 to SBT before I would put a 650 in there. It would be about 10 MPH slower with the 650. Or find a set of used cases and a cylinder and do a rebuild. I generally advise against buying used engines. You never know what you are getting. For what used engines sell for, you can usually rebuild what you have. The other issue with going to a 650, is none of the electrics are really compatible. The 650s used a different stator and CDI. What you may save buying a 650, you will spend changing out those things, as well as changing the impeller.

    i have lots of good used, and new parts here, and would be happy to help with the rebuild of your 780.


    i have a good 780 bottom end, cases, with crank, 450.00 + s&h

    have cyls, heads, new pistons, gaskets, carb kits, fuel pump kits, etc.
