    2002 Polaris Virage TXi Questions?

Thinking about buying this ski that has a hole in one of the pistons. I realize this is probably from some kind of a lean condition and was wondering if this was common on this particular model? What could cause this on this ski? I have been told these are hard to work on. Does this particular model have a bad track record for repairs? Any help would be appreciated.Thanks...

I rebuilt one last year, the lean condition isn't really any more common than on any other ski. The TXi is a fuel injected model so it could be something as simple as a airleak in the intake/case or bad EMM, there's a place that rebuilds them they charge a flat rate about $700, and thats not including the engine internals that your gonna need, i guess if you get it for a good price, they are heaps of fun when they run right.

Thanks for the response. Is there anyway to test the EMM? The ski will still turn over and tries to start. How can I test for an air leak in the crankcase?Thanks...

The only real way to test the EMM is by sending it away, and to check for leaks in the case you need to seal off the inlet and the exhaust and pressurize the lower half of the block and see if it holds pressure, I think the first question you want to ask yourself is how far you want to go with it cause its probably alot easier and cheaper to find a ski that is already running.

Low fuel pressure can also lean out the engine. Electric fuel pump plus regulator inside the fuel tank should deliver over 20 PSI.

In rare cases an injector can go bad and lean a cylinder. More common is fuel pressure and EMM problems.

Thanks for the info. I have a feeling it might be the fuel pressure as I cant find anything else that it might be.

Fuel pressure is easy enough to check, and fairly straightforward to repair.

It is entirely possible that the fuel pressure is low and the EMM needs repair. Do not assume that there is only one problem.
