Replacing Fuel pumps with a Mikuni Triple

Anyone thought about replacing the fuel pump on their carbs with an external triple fuel pump? Seems like it would be an easy job. Cheap, reliable and easy to maintain and rebuild.

on what carb setup??keihins??wouldn't be that easy.you'd have to leave the the cast return orifice in the center carb and HOPE that it keeps the pressure correct,or remove it and run 3 supply lines and 3 return lines that connect to one point and then start jetting the return orifice to get the correct fuel pressures.

Not a real good idea if you ask me. I think the 2 pumps on the carbs flow more fuel than an external pump would anyways.

I think 35 liters per hour would be more that enough. I am not sure where if or where the restrictor is on the keihin system. But if it is in the 2nd carb vent line, I would leave it there and it should be fine. Or could just put restrictor in the return line. I doubt the lack of pressure would be a problem.

Just thinking out of the box if you will. Since I am having to rebuild carbs, I am toying around with the idea.

Why mess with what works??????? Sounds like a solution in search of a problem. Im pretty sure the domestic triples go through more than 9GPH at WOT, which is more than 35L per hour. That pump wouldnt be enough. Thats why the domestic triples run 2 pumps.

ran my triple piped virage tx with 3-42mm race keihins with 2 carb body mounted pumps, turned 7300 rpm all day long with 6psi at wot.no need to reinvent the wheel.

I guess Polaris saw the carb pumps as an improvement over the external. Probably a cost savings issue.
