2001 gti 720 or 2000 gtx 951 carbed mill edition?

Hello. If I want minimal grief and repairs, should I choose a 2001 gti 720, or a 2000 gtx 951 carbed millenium edition?
All things being equal (hours/condition etc.), which has the best chance of good reliability and why?
There will be no mods needed and planned use is family rec ski.
    Thanks in advance.

I have an original 717 engine in my 95xp, i have owned the ski since Feb of 2000. I did replace fuel lines and oil pump and oil injection lines for preventive maintenance. I have had good luck with the 717 engine. I don't know about the 947 engine. I do have a 96xp with 787 and detoed a top end the first year of ownership

Get the GTI 717 the 951 is a unreliable boat anchor, from a reliablility standpoint the 720 will out last the 951 by double the engine hours

You are comparing the LOWEST hp motor "rental" setup 717 to the HIGHEST hp "performance" motor. The 951 has great performance. The 717 has great reliability. Please take into account that you are looking at 12 and 13 year old machines that may have had the wrong mechanic working on them-- i.e. a well setup and gone through 00 GTX 951 will out last a 2001 GTI 717 that has issues.

Ok thanks. I can appreciate that history and condition is huge. So if the concenseus is that the 717 motor is most reliable, how about if we expand the question to the entire skis, and include the electrics and everything? Any particular gotchas for either ski?

I would hold out for a 787 powered GTX. The 951's are good engines, but need to be taken care of. The 717's are much more reliable, but I have seen a lot of them with bad cranks lately. The 787 has a counterbalancer, a ton more power, and just as reliable, if not more.

    Wengr,
I'm going to buck the trend and say go with the 951 GTX. Not only were "most" 951 issues worked out by 2000, it just so happens to be one bad a$$ looking machine in my opinion. If I was forced to pick the most reliable, then I would say that the 951 isn't it, but again, by 2000 most issues you will encounter are caused by abuse or lack of maintenance, not design issues. I had the 1999 GTX 951 and that motor hull combo is a nice set-up. I am geared towards performance so....... The 2000 is a real looker for an "old skool" sled...
