Letting the drive shaft dangle: Problems?

I plan on removing the pump and just pulling the shaft back without taking apart anything so I can get to the flywheel bolts behind the cover. Is there any issue with letting it hang there while the other end is not in the engine?

i only let my shaft dangle when no one is around.

It should be ok, but its a whole hell of alot easier pulling the motor out to remove the PTO cover.

    LOL...

There's no issues doing so, it rests on the hull...
Maybe long term the deflection will affect the accordian boot. But I have no proof of this.

It all depends on the angle of the dangle...
