gp 1300 front crank seal ?

Hi , i am in the process of putting in a 4degree key way in my 2007 gp1300r (107 hours ) . When i took the front cover off i noticed a little bit of tan coloured oil sitting at the bottom . the oil was clean and not discoloured at all. My question is if it was leaking from the engine it would be discoloured ? It has been converted to premix and if the oil pump was leaking the should have been the colour of yamalube ? Could it have come from the grease that yamaha put on the starter motor ? Thanks .

grease shouldnt break down and melt. oil should not be pooled in there as well. if it were me id replace the crank seals just to be safe

Yeh I was thinking about that' but it is a bit puzzling that the oil was different col our to what I use and was super clean. On another note are these seals special Yamaha seals or can be purchased at a seal and bearing supplier ?

since you ask about the seal, keep in mind the cases need to be split in order to replacement.

I'd just run it. Most likely it was grease from the bendix. I see a little oil in there all the time. If the seal was leaking, you would have suffered a lean condition on that cylinder.

Unless you just want to tear the whole thing apart.
