I saw those a little while back.

From what I read about that grade aluminum they used, it's got good corrosion resistance. But I couldn't find anything about it's abrasion resistance.

I bet it would be good on a Pro where the extension is behind the stator for sure.

316 Stainless has a rockwell hardness of ~95
6061 Aluminum has a rockwell hardness of ~62

I would guess it wouldnt wear as good as stainless in a wear ring application, but would work just fine used behind the stator.

Sure, but what do you gain over a good condition used OEM extension in that application, even if it is worn?

Nothing, but the extension on my Pro is mint and would be nice to use as a wear ring.

I don't understand why there are places that refinish impellers back to OEM specs but no one does wear rings? It doesn't make sense to me...

They are making some money on that if they can run nice quanities. I guess if they wear O.K. there is no reason not to use aluminum. Stainless is expensive even in Tube form. Many times its cheaper to buy soild and drill the hole.
Aluminum can be hard coated up in the 70 Rockwell range. It will toast a solid carbide end mill in short order (learned the hard way).
