    1994 seadoo spx engine rebuild

    Hi everyone,
New to the forum, never really posted on a forum site before, so its learn as i go.
Purchased a 1994 seadoo spx today, in good condition for its age. However the engine is in need of rebuilding, the owner heard a knocking so had the engine torn down and thats as far as he got. Somehow the rotary valve got damaged and has scored the intake on the crankcase, please see attached photos. Please can i have some advice regarding the damage being too bad and needing repairing or a replacement crankcase, or possibly will it be ok.

    Thanks
    Mathew

It almost looks like it ingested something to bend the vane like that. You can probably get the case machined, and I know you can get a new rotary shaft pretty cheap. I would try to find a machinest in your area and show him. SBT remachines cases and covers. They did mine, came out real good.

I think the cover will be ok, but yes the case needs machining or i source a replacement. Is there enough tolerance to get it machined and it still seal and work correctly. I am not overly happy with the condition of the case, its fine but someone has used thread inserts on a couple of the case threads. I have seen used cases on ebay for around $80 USD that look to be in good condition. This might be a better option. Being in New Zealand my options and parts access are a little limited. I have to send the crankshaft away for rebuild and i would most likely send the case to the same place for machining. I am seriously considering getting a rebuilt engine out of America, but i need to price freight, because that will be the killer.
