Replacing the damper on front hatch - 2010 Ultra LX

The damper on the front hatch of my Ultra LX is stuffed....rubber boot split and damper is not working at all.

    Some questions -
    • Anyone ever changed the damper or something similar before?....Part number 92161B
    • Is it any easy job to replace?
    • Do I also have to order the retaining pins and split washers etc...as part of a kit?
    • Any special tools needed?
    Appreciate some feedback....

    Cheers....

    re-use everything.
    Just change damper.
Undo the 4 bolts that hold the hood on.
Lay the hood paint side down on blanket so don't scratch.
Take out bolts holding the inner liner to the hood.
And the 4 holding hinge to hood.
You will see how the damper is bolted under the liner.
Don't take the bolts out that make up the latch. No need.
Don't bother with the damper protector.
    It keeps the moisture in.
You just want to fit the damper on its own.
I found it very easy, specially if you have the damper ready to go.

This place may have something thta will work and they can supply stainless versions. Take some measurements, figure out the load and share your research should you find something that works.

Thanks for the replies so far........some good advise.

Will consider something else that could replace current damper/strut. Perhaps stainless steel unit....or lanotec the inside of rubber boot if I use a standard Kawsaki unit....

If I find a suitable replacement unit.....lower cost, better deisgned for salt water use I will advise all...

    Thanks....
