    More AIRFLOW work on IC's...

    **This thread is for information purposes only. I am simply posting the data that I have collected. Please take it AS IS, which is “data”….

    Last week I did some flow work on an OEM intercooler, see this thread if you haven’t...http://www.greenhulk.net/forums/showthread.php?t=18850

    This time I did some work with Piranha Parts IC and an XSPower IC…

    The discharge tube from the blower is a 3” pipe. The XSPower IC has 3” inlet pipes, therefore we used a straight 3” rubber connection…However, the Piranha unit has 2.5” inlet pipes, so we adjusted this by using a 2.5” pipe INSIDE the 3”…We flowed that setup before mounting the Piranha, and found about a 0.2” in/water backpressure, nothing we felt would impact the test….

    First Video

    I set the machine to push at a constant rate of .460, and the backpressure was noted as so. The blower speed had to be adjusted to spin 5 Hz (rpm) lower for the XS than the Piranha, to obtain the same flowrate of .460…

    Piranha backpressure = 5.5 inches/water
    XSPower backpressure = 1.3 inches/water

    Second video

    The next test was a MAX airflow test. The machine was capable of 60hz MAX motor speed, but the MAX airflow being released was determined on backpressure…With the motor running at 60Hz, it was difficult to keep my hand in front of each unit. Just by the way my hand reacted to the airflow, you can see how much was passing through…

    Piranha
    MAX airflow= 3.000-3.010
    backpressure = 37.0 inches/water

    XSPower
    MAX airflow= 4.100
    backpressure = 9.5 inches/water

    After running each IC for 2 minutes at MAX speed, the Piranha casing was very hot to the touch. I was not able to immediately touch it, we had to slow the machine down and run air through it around the original test speed to cool it off….The XSPower unit was warm to the touch, but could be handled immediately after testing…

    I would like to flow both a RIVA unit and a Rotax Racing unit…if there is anyone in the Chicago area that would like to volunteer their units, they are more than welcome to join and see the testing for themselves…

    I'm curious as hell to see the legit Vortech Riva IC get flowed on that thing.

    Great info, Danny! Thanks for sharing your results.

    Now you just need to make an IC bracket and pipe kit for the XS IC.

    Danny this is what I like to see. I went the cheap rout with the xs IC as I had 2 RXP's to mod and it was starting to cost to much, so to see this info makes me feel great about the Xs IC...

    I was actually thinking about it...Make a kit that uses the XS, and you are responsible for finding your own unit on Ebay or whereever....BUT it would be a conflict of interest, because Hulk already sells units and plumbing kits...

    HOWEVER, if I can make something and he can list it in his store, then MAYBE...

    Danny I thought of selling a kit aswell.

    I had come up with a easy set up to install, but I found that it just wasn't worth it.

    Why? Because It wouldn't be fair to try and sell it on Jerry's site and I really don't want the problems that come with it.....

    I have found that my XS IC performed KICKASS!!!!! You are just proving the numbers..

    I think it would be a great idea. Make a kit that you could purchase though Jerry.

    I buy all of my parts from him anyway (actually, if in weren't for this dang site, I would have been happy with the Riva Stage 1 kit. Darn you, Jerry. Darn you!! )
