    Maintenance...Pre and Post ride

    Hi All,

Can you please advise on how to properly maintain my 03 GP1300R, I am most interested in what to look for pre-ride and what should be done post-ride (besides flushing)?

Previous owner told me spray engine down with WD-40, correct?
He also said constantly check the placing of the oil lines, how and where?

Im a newb as you can see, I would hate to screw something up on my first time out.

If this has been discussed in a earlier thread please link.

    Value your thoughts, thanks Jay

You need to premix your fuel.
Don't trust that pump or those oil lines.
I've seen oil pumps fail or oil line come off and your engine is toast.
Premix you akways know how much oil your motor is getting.
Bring an extra set of spark plugs with you at all times.

I'd recommend going with a lanolin based spray like Fluid-Film instead of WD-40 for the post ride spray. It's not as harsh on the rubber parts.

Preride, I try to do as much stuff at home as possible so that when i get to the water I'm don't get that "rushed" feeling and forget something. I always start the ski up on the trailer at home before heading to the water. That way I get the fuel flowing and confirm the battery has enough juice to start the engine. Sometimes I'll trickle charge the battery for a while before heading out. I also always make sure the drain plugs are in and secure (you'd hate to forget that after launching). And yes, i check the oil lines to make sure they are secure.
If you own a GPR, you pretty much need to switch to premix because inspecting the oil lines is nearly impossible. It super easy on the older skis like mine, everything is out in the open and it takes 3 seconds to inspect.
