I've heard a lot of people are running a Garmin 78SC. That's a great all around GPS. Then there's other cheap ones around $125 which are good for speed. Not navigation

Garmin e-trex I bought it for 99$ at Dicks sporting goods.
Works perfect for speed, moving time, distance, stop time, etc...

    Using the oregon 300..

    loving it..

i use it to track speeds, some way points, so on... easy to use, and i got a decently good deal for it locally here. I got it for 80$ with 2 ram mounts when i was buying a marine gps/charplotter).

I use a smartphone with free downloaded apps. It works great and I can load my runs into the computer with mapping and waypoints. Can also do timed speed runs like 0-45 in x seconds. You just start it and it starts recording as soon as you start moving (somebody has to hold the ski) then stops itself at whatever speed you enter.

Hello, I got a new last year model " e-trex " from sports authority on clearance sale @ $59.99 it mounts well & works great for speed runs. O yea, waterproof also and fits in a cell phone holder / mount.
