my question would be why would you want to change if proper maintenance and pre-cautions are taken with the carbon seal setup it works just fine imho

there has been many a post on the past subject, and many a ski that has sunk because of the needle bearings locking up, there were a lot of different ones available back from 06,
I chose to go with a old Noble race one I picked up from a fellow R5 racer here in Texas,
the Les Cooke ones are the best out there and they have passed the test of time,
I had tried the carbon ring stock set up for a while racing, and even went with the SF bellows band and I was getting a lot of cavitation off the line on race starts,
the down fall to the shaft seal is to keep it properly greased, several members use a long grease hose connected to the seal that comes up under the seat for easy access,
I am in the process of testing a automatic grease set up on my carrier bearing set up, so far so good,

it works fine until you start exceeding its design such as cavitation due to air being sucked in due to increase in HP.
