    GPS Suggestions

Anyone using a marine GPS they recommend? I mostly ride FL rivers and lakes but I'd also like one that can handle offshore waters in case I venture out in the Atlantic. There are too many choices out there to just go buy one and hope it's what I need. Any suggestions?

I have been having it for years. It has inland nav, and can take abuse. It is small and light. I just have it mounted to my bars with a RAM mount and it has held fine for many offshore rides and races.

I use a Garmin etrex venture HC. Its a nice small hand-held unit that has a color screen. It picks up the satellites very fast outdoors. I also use a RAM mount... they are literally the best mounts out there, and they arn't expensive at all.

My only complaint about the etrex series in general (at least the older ones) is that the rubber grip that goes around the whole unit evenutually begins to fall off. I have resealed it a few times with ThreeBond silicone and it does the job.

Just one more thing... depending on your riding style, perticually if you go offshore where you get banged around, you are going to want to secure the two top arms of the RAM mount with a ziptie each ride because the pounding from offshore will actually cause the GPS unit to pop out of the mount.

Hope that helps. Heres a few pictures as well.

PS: I've only tired it on one river which it did have navigation for. Not sure about smaller rivers.

The RAM mount comes with an aluminum back plate that the mount screws into.

Thinking about picking up the Garmin Etrex Venture HC... Is it worth picking up for 75$?
