it doesn't matter which one you use. sometimes when you pull the head off, it stays in the block, sometimes, it stays in the head. just make sue you have one at each end of the block.
And stay away from the Captain Morgan while doing engine work......
oh and make sure you clean shit out of the mating surfaces

It's on. 2 beers wasn't the best idea before torquing to 100ft/lbs. Glad I ate my wheaties. For anyone that finds this thread from an ARP search (since I'm adding ARP right here), put the damn head on THEN put the head studs on. ughh

head alignment pin. one in the head and one in block same spot
+1 On cleaning them surfaces. They are grubby as hell.
For the dowel pins, grab hold of the one you choose to remove with vice grips really tight, twist and pull to remove.
