    PWC Research

    Hello,

My name is Michael Hall and I am currently a 4th year student at the University of Nottingham studying Product Design and Manufacture. At present I am conducting research based on my major project of Personal Water Transport.

My research will be directed towards the PWC (Personal watercraft) industry and I would really appreciate it if you could answer a short questionnaire. I would also like to gain your opinions on any potential concepts of mine.

Please be aware that any of the data collected will be stored on this forum and will be available for members of the public to view. I will also store the data on a hard drive that will be in a password protected folder. Once I have completed the project the data will be deleted however I remind you that the information you post will still be available on the forum. Data collected will be used to inform my design.

If you agree and accept the conditions of my research and are over the age of 18, please continue and post a reply.

    I appreciate your time greatly,

    Thank you,

    Michael

    · Have you ever used a jet ski?
    Yes
    · If yes, what do you like about them? What do you dislike about them?
The speed, ride, grip, and versatility of them. I dislike the expense of parts (oem and aftermarket) and the perception most boaters have of those who ride them
    · Why do you use a jet ski?
Fun, Ride in all weather conditons, good on fuel, ability to ride in shallow water.
    · What aspects do you like about being on the water?
    nearly everything
    · In your opinion, how important are the following in your PWC:

    Least Important
    1 2 3 4 Very Important
    5
    Speed 4-5
Safety This is more on the rider but 5
Closeness to water 3 (within reason)
Maneuverability (Fixed that for you ) 5
Sharing the experience, i.e. 2+ passenger PWC 2 (PWCs are better in most cases solo)

    JetLev

    · Have you heard of the new JetLev water jet pack? yes
    · If yes, what do you think of it? Its cool but too expensive.
    · What do you think is the best aspect that it offers the user? Its function
    · Would you be comfortable using one? I am sure that I would get used to it
    · Would you like a craft that offers the same feeling but easier to use? Cheaper would be the first thing I would try for.

    Future

    · What would you expect in the future of water sports? More press and more active racing scene
    · What would you like to be able to do? A night racing series with high powered lights would be cool but its too dangerous realistically

    Good luck,

    Sean

They allow me to Speed... legally! They allow access to places like no other vehicle. It's cheaper than an airplane.
    · If yes, What do you dislike about them?
    They have become too large.
    · Why do you use a jet ski?
    Speed, access.
    · What aspects do you like about being on the water?
    Best place to be. Period.

Hello, hope your research study is for real. Here is my answers: Ride; Yes-9 yrs, Like being only 3' above surface water @ high speeds, Dislike how large they are becoming & cost to buy new one, Ride PWC -cause nothing else like it on H2O, for your scale questions: 5, 4, 5, 5, 5 (if when you have another ski for the friend to ride). As for the "JetLev" I guess you mean ski board using ski propulsion ... not my cup of tea ! But does look cool to watch. As for future of water (Would like to see more general awareness of how PWCs really have a place on the waterways ... ) What do expect the future to bring ... same-o (large PWCs @ very costly prices) and some Government bean counter coming out with more regulations on where, how & who can ride PWCs ! Lastly; I would like to be able to Afford this sport and have it last for my grandchildren to experience

Not trying to hijack but there's another player in the levitating field. The 2 companies/products:

    Jet Lev ($99,500)

    and

Fly Board (around $10k) and you use your own 100+ hp ski to power it.

    Is this a joke?
Really I would say us as enthusiasts are not the majority that buy jetskis. As far as a research pool your results are going to be so skewed their will be no accuracy.

Have you ever used a jet ski?
    Yes
    · If yes, what do you like about them? What do you dislike about them?
Like: Speed, handling, feel, experience, fuel efficiency, ability to go in shallow water, versatility
    Dislike: Parts cost
    · Why do you use a jet ski?
Fun, Ride in all weather conditons, good on fuel, ability to ride in shallow water.
    · What aspects do you like about being on the water?
    All aspects.
    · In your opinion, how important are the following in your PWC:

    Least Important
    1 2 3 4 5 Very Important

    Speed 4-5
    Safety 4
Closeness to water 3 (I'd like to not have a submarine)
    Maneuverability 5
Sharing the experience, i.e. 2+ passenger PWC 2 and 3. They both have their perfect uses and such I love them both.

    JetLev

    · Have you heard of the new JetLev water jet pack? Yes
    · If yes, what do you think of it? Neat idea, but very expensive
    · What do you think is the best aspect that it offers the user? Function
    · Would you be comfortable using one? I'm sure it's awkward at first, but becomes second nature with use.
    · Would you like a craft that offers the same feeling but easier to use? Probably not, as it's use seems better for a rental outfit or as a limited use toy.

    Future

    · What would you expect in the future of water sports? More options, more press, more racing.
    · What would you like to be able to do? I would love for cheaper entry options, as well as more lighter skis to provide a wider range of product offering (i.e. simple, lightweight modern day 2 stroke in a smaller, lighter hull for enthusiasts).
