Kawasaki Ultra 150 Weird Electrics Behaviour

    Hey guys,
My ultra 150 has been having some electrical problems recently and has gotten pretty bad in the last ride. What happens is basically when you turn the orange electrics on/off switch to on sometimes it wont make the screen flash on but sometimes it will. But when you turn it to off the screen flashes back on like you reset it or didnt turn the electrics off. Then when i wanted to start it i turn it to on and nothing would happen. Where it became dangerous was when i was out riding and went over a small bit of chop the ski turned off when it got bumped around a bit. Luckily i got it started again and made my way back. When we took it out again after a few seconds it cut out again and couldn't get it to start for 10 minutes. So im thinking its one of a few things, faulty battery, faulty or loose terminals or the orange electric on/off switch is faulty. Please let me know what to do from here im thinking i should order a new switch but let me know what you all think.

    Thanks,
    Chad

My thoughts would be to replace the switch and test battery/charging system

Sounds like it might be something wrong with the switch, I can't understand why the display would come on when you turn it off.

HOWEVER, it costs nothing to check all the battery cable connections, and they do come loose.

Also, I'd check the switch with an ohmmeter before replacing it.

I'd look on Ebay, make sure you get the keys that go with it.

Well we found the cause of all this. Click image for larger version.

ID:	295320Whenever we move this brown thing the electrics will turn off completely and so will the ski if its running. So now we know where the cause of all this has come from what should I do? I'm not sure how to open it so if you know please post how. And I was thinking of just replacing the whole main harness electricals but that will cost $260 so if there is another way to fix whatever is wrong with this brown box please let me know. This brown box is located directly above the battery.

That's just an electrical connector. Since it has a blank plug on one side, it's used to plug the diagnostic computer in. There may be some sort of terminators built into the plug (resistors). Just remove the plug and try cleaning the terminals inside with some contact cleaner.

Or, it may have gotten water in it and corroded, possibly shorting two wires together. Either way, clean it and put it back together.
