Remind Me: Check Engine with No Stored Codes

    I seem to remember:

    Knock sensor
    High exhaust temp

Any others? This is on a fresh rebuild.

Maybe I need to ask my question better. I am trying to remember which faults can cause a check engine light when running, but will not STORE a code for retrival with the SET button. I wish I had pushed the SET button when it was running and the fault was active, but I did not. I really don't want to run it again just yet (winterized, etc).

I remember that the waterbox high temperature and the knock sensor will not store, I think. That right, any others?

Jim, was that using the SET button recall, or a scanning tool like buds?

I know for a fact that not all knock sensor codes store ................. from experience.

to be sure, get your hands on a candoo, connect then watch the engine stats. If it was an overheat the high temp will be recorded.

On a fresh rebuild I would suspect the oil pressure didn't come up to snuff in time. I crank the engine a whole bunch of times with the plugs out with some rest time between to be as sure as possible the oiling systems are fully primed up.

The candoo will tell you what was going on during the last 60 seconds of run time, so that may be a little mental insurance against your uber expensive pile of new reciprocating parts becoming more less expensive parts.

My 2004 RXP throws P-326 while running but once key is pulled and reattached the code is gone until boost is accumulated when running and throws code again... I need some knowledge on this one, I have allready installed a brand new sensor and problem started a week later.

From my experience of the 07 RXP I worked on last year, knock was stored on the ECU-- viewed faults w/ my candoo. It listed the number of times as something like 286. Replaced the knock sensor and problem was gone.
