Just checked compression, new rings and or pistons needed??

Well I just checked the compression on the SL1050 I just bought, I'm showing 120-110-120 psi. Do I need to re-ring and hone the cylinders? Can I reuse the old pistons or should they be replaced as well?

How well does the engine run? I think some of the 1050s ran lower compression on the center cylinder. If the engine runs fine, I wouldn't worry about it.

Well good deal, it doesn't run great right now, It will bog and die after a few seconds, I think it might be because of the old gas in the tank. Also, it backfires quiet frequently right now, any idea what could be causing this?

It also does not have the ignition update, so I am starting the search to find one, its kit 2873091 that I need, correct? It's a 97 SL1050

Backfiring sounds like it needs an ignition update. Check your reeds and clean your carbs. Get rid of the grey fuel lines as well and you should be good to go.

While you are doing all that, get that old gas out of there too.....I wouldnt run it any more without doing this stuff.

I would also take the heads off and inspect - quite easy and domestics don't require new gaskets.

I checked the reeds and carbs, all looked good, carbs looked like they have been rebuilt recently, and it has all new fuel lines, with the exception of the vent line to the tank, it's still the grey one, but I'll replace it in the next few days. So would you say that I need to replace the ignition with 2873091 ASAP?

The bog and die and backfiring sounds like you've got a stator trying to quit. You can test it.
