    Pulling Driveshaft Issues

So today I finished pulling the motor out of my ski. After a small war between me the the hat covering the C-clip I was able to finally get it out with some help from my brother. When i went to pull the driveshaft out the the PTO cover I was having major issues with getting it to come out far enough for me to get the motor out! I ended up having to raise the motor out with my hoist and wingle/tap the driveshaft in order to get it to clear the PTO cover. Here's a picture of the drive shaft as it sits now....Is something wrong? Last time i pulled the drive shaft on a different ski it wasnt nearly as hard to get it out? Keep in mind I do ride salt.
Secondly, I noticed my pistons are much dirtier then the previous ski's I'd worked on!Click image for larger version.

Keep in mind thats as far back as the drive shaft will go BTW.

Your supposed to pull the pump and completely remove the driveshaft. There's no way you'll get it back in without removing the pump

My pistons looked worse than yours. Why are you pulling the motor

You will never get the c clip off without pump installed.
    1) remove c clip
    2) remove pump and drive shaft
    3) remove motor

I know you can get motor out with shaft in place but why not do it the correct way?

Why are you pulling motor because of blown head gasket?
Are you going to deck everything?

Sorry i'm being miss understood I think.
I did all the steps prescribed above Except I Could not get the Drive shaft out!
I took the C-clip off, then removed pump.
Tried to take the drive shaft out but that sucker wouldn't budge!

And i removed the motor because I'm gunna replace the flywheel bolts.

@jhill you're talking about the rubber sleeve in the background correct. And yeah i wish i was putting in new pistons but I dont have that money at this point.

And when u guys say pull and tug you mean from the back of the ski correct? I can get it to slide forwards towards the bow but nothing toward the rear.
