    Cool Gp1300/1200 Help

Hey guys im asking this for a friend who just recently bought an 05 gp1300..
Im more of a rotax guy so I dont know this platform 100%. Anyways, the ski is a 1300 however its on carbs and no longer fuel injection so the entire electrical system is from a gp1200. Ski has ride plate, grate, cut oem heads @ 160 in each piston, reeds, big carbs. And probably 2 or 3 more things im forgetting to mention.

Problem is, my buddy took it to the beach and got some salt water inside and caused the engine to lock. I took it out and cleaned everything right away. The engine now spins and is showing good compression. I sprayed some starting fluid in the carbs to get it to start but it shows no sign of wanting to start. My next comcern is that when I checked the spark plugs they are not throwing a big enough spark to start the engine.. I mean you can barely see the spark in each of the 3 spark plugs. And yes the spark plugs are brand new. Im pretty sure the problem is coming from the electrical box, but before telling him to go buy one i figured I would ask here first.

Thanks for any help guys, if this was a rotax it would be fixed by now but im not too big on yamaha engines. And im sure some if you can point me in the right direction. (:

Did it rust up the pick-up in the stator cover?
    Engine cranking at full speed?

I have the same parts for sale, but it would be nice to diagnose before just hanging parts on there

Is there a way to test voltage at plugs? Find what's causing a weak spark ...could he coils be going bad ?

I had this happen to a friends Yam 1200, He also quickly dried the engine out but the Stator got wet and never seam to deliver enough juice/impulse to the pugs ....I think he had to replace. Good luck

Yea it did rust up inside but was all cleaned out. I guess i should take it apart again and inspect the stator?

Sounds like a corrosion problem. Check your grounds and electrical connections at plugs. And don't use ether to start it. If you got that much water in it you could have damaged the reeds.

I know you said 160psi, but is that after salt water intrusion? I live on salt water.EVERTHING RUSTS.Doesn't take long either.+100 on checking connections.

160 was before the salt water however im positive there is more than 100 psi in each the way it is now. I havent tested it yet since I can tell the compression is there. I will check all connections again though before taking it apart to check the stator. Im pretty positive now thats the issue though.

160 vs 100 psi is like a NASCAR car vs cobalt car.... If motor isn't turning over at 100 percent then readings will be low
