Removing flame arrestor from Intake Manifold

I'm thinking of removing the resonator on my RXP-X. Riva suggests that there is a one pound boost increase by doing so.
Anybody know if this is really so and if it actually give any noticible performance gains?

I never measured the difference in boost pressure but it does make a seat of the pants difference. If you saw the flame arrestor you would see why. You don't need the Riva kit although it is a clean and easy way of doing it. You could take long needle nose pliers and twist chunks out until its all gone. Takes about an hour or so.

+1..... no need for that expensive Riva "manifold upgrade" kit

It's not hard to get it out.... just takes a little time. Make sure you clean-wash the manifold out really good after it's removed. I can't back up any said claims.... but It's definitely a restriction!

Here's what they look like when removed:

Is that thing in the 2012 manifolds? I wish we had back to back data logs before and after.

It's a flame arrestor. None of the pre 08 4-tec's had one, however the 215's had the IC in there. It's just an air flow restriction, and extra weight IMO.

Emissions all speed control. These ski's are designed with this crap for EPA and for coast guard safety bs. Bolt on's are just unlockers for regulators added

There is not really a boost increase. You are just moving a restriction like Bigdaddy said. You have to think of all the things after your SC that restrict boost. ie the hoses, the IC this thing. By removing this you allow more of the boost that your SC makes to actually make it into the manifold.
p.s. I have removed them fron all my skis that had them.

I am pretty sure all 255hp skis have had this.
