    advice please re 1300r cold start

    I had some rope caught round the impeller, i rolled the ski over in the water to remove rope, I righted the ski which started then ok with a couple of turns of the starter,

    The issue is when starting from cold it takes a few turns to get it going but stalls on tick over and has a bit of a flat spot when revving..its like starting an engine without choke

    its starts and runs fine when warm

    I have fitted new plugs

    There is oil on the pump opposite the exhaust exit, could this be where its mis firing on cold start and spraying unburnt fuel?

    any ideas chaps?

    sounds like you need to check the plug gap ( you did check the gap right?) and perhaps trim 1/4 inch off the plug leads. You need good spark to run when engine is cold. Be sure you have the correct plugs, there should be a sticker on the engine showing the correct type. Be aware that aftermarket heads may call for a longer reach plug then the sticker indicates

    I did gap the plugs and they are the recommended plugs for the ski, the ski engine is stock with 53 hours , its a 2004 model, I only changed the plugs after the symptoms started to eliminate the obvious
