Thread: crankcase cleaning?

Can anyone give me a write up/cleaning procedure for the crankcase halves?
Whatever I am doing now just doesnt seem to be the best method.
What kind of chemicals?? Do I need to soak them for awhile?

I usually just drown them in brake cleaner, blow dry with comp. air, than wipe with acetone before reassembly.
If the outside is really greasy, I get a tire/wheel brush with long nylon bristles, drop it in a rubbermaid tub with a greased lightning or simple green and start scrubbing. then do the above.

They sell a gallon can of carb cleaner at the auto parts store that doesn't attack aluminum. I use it for all kinds of stuff. Stinks like hell.
