'07 RXT Hood Shock Install Help.

    Greetings
I am meeting with a friend down in Del Rey Sunday to go ride. He has an '07 RXT and the shock on the front nose needs replaced. I remember 2 years ago he had same issue and we were trying to get it on at Lake Mohave and we could not compress the shock to get it on there.
Is there a trick to this that any of you know or?
Also is there a different replacement that does not rust out like the stocker? This will be his 3rd replacement.
Thanks in advance and have a good one.

    Napa makes a good replacement.

To compress the shock, take a ratchet with no socket and place it in the metal bracket up top and it will give you the leverage compress.

I recall there was some sort of service bulletin on the hood strut, something about moving the bottom mount over about an inch to keep the strut from popping off..The side stress may be the cause of your repeated fails. Can't find the bulletin at the moment. But it's floating around here somewhere.

    see atached.

Be sure the bracket screws are tight and don't allow bracket to lean of center.

I had some issues on my 2007RXT......it broke from the plastic housing, which I replaced, then it contiunually came loose from the socket and clip.I remounted at a slightly different angle and it's been fine. I would think some kind of fluid film or some dessicant bags left in the storage container would help dispel moisture from that area.

I just had this same problem of trying to compress the hood strut. I took a ratchet strap and looped it around both ends of the strut and just kept tightening the thing until it was short enough. Had to cut the strap short enough but it worked great!Click image for larger version.
