    Hood damper seized on ultra

My hood damper finally seized after 5 seasons. I looked up some past threads but failed to find a better damper. Any advise on where to purchase? Factory or after market? Also is it better to pull the boot off or punch a hole on it to keep moisture out?

    Just order oem.
It lasted five years like you said.
I would personally remove the boot.
    Water will drain away quicker.

When I replaced the gas spring on my Ultra 150, I wasn't about to spend big bucks to buy another OEM piece of crap that would rust out in a couple of years. I found a guy in Canada that makes an excellent product (stainless) for less than the original price.

    LS Technologies Canada Inc.

I dealt with Nolan Fehr. He responded immediately to my request and was most helpful.

I have the part number for my spring, but I imagine the 250, 260 and 300 models use a different spring.

Mine gave way after ONE year on my 300X. Bought aftermarket and did not put the boot back on. think that was the prob. So far so good with the new one. From memory the aftermarket strut was less than half price of the OEM.

Not sure what brand, it was in plain packaging. I bought it from a ski shop here in Australia. Im sure any ski shop there in the US will have a similar product but make sure you either punch a hole in the rubber boot down low so it can drain or don't put the rubber boot on at all.
