I'm a 76 man myself, but I'm pretty sure that the SD optional glove box lid was specifically made for the 76. I'm not saying nothing else will fit, just that it was made w/the 76 in mind. I can tell you, however, that although the 76 can likely be found for a good price, they have been discontinued. The new upgraded model is the 78. I have had it in my hands and don't think it would even come close to snapping in that lid.

Keep in mind, if the GPS you need is just for speed/mod testing, the eTrex is fine. But for trail riding and tracking, a 76 or 78 might best suit your needs.

    Best of luck w/your purchase.

You mean just like this one in my 2005 GTX??

And you can clearly see that you can easily adjust the size of the font and what is specifically displayed.

No the etrex will NOT fit this glove box that is designed only for the 76. I've used a etrex and it is a bitch the read while riding compared to the 76. The 76 is also waterproof.

Search the internet, you can still get the Garmin 76.

Isn't the 78SC the latest and greatest for not much more? Looks like same size.

there's another thread on the map 76..still my go to gps and has been for over 5 years. Good maps are pricey, but they sometimes come up on ebay for cheap.

for simple speed and which way is home use, you don't need additional maps.

the 76 is fully waterproof and even floats.

etrx is more for the hiking crowd

you can find a program called "gps warn" which allows you to customize the garmin startup screen to add your personal contact info in case you find the gps isn't where you think you left it

So far the bid ends in 6 hours I'm keeping my fingers crossed...

Do you mind posting a link to the other thread?? I can't find it for anything

Also is any map better then the other? I've never had a GPS before nor have I had to add maps to it haha I think that other tread could come in handy

the only downside I can think of for the map76 is that is requires a serial port to download maps. Serial ports are about moot on most modern pc's..but there are USB to serial converters and for real hardcore hacks ( like me) you can get a PCI-e card that provides a couple of serial ports.

I've only used garmin maps..I don't recall seeing maps for it from other vendors.

just go for it..cheap enough and take it from me....it can be a lifesaver when things go very very wrong.

my wife and I were out fishing on black lake in ny..it was getting dark and we figured we'd be able to see the dock lights across the lake...

well not..couldn't see a thing..but I had marked the dock position before we set out and it wasn't too hard to get a bearing to put us right back to where we started
