2005 Ultra 150 with 12 hrs for $3995. Good deal or no?

I've been looking at this ski on craigslist for several months. He's firm on the price but it does come on a double galvanized trailer. The pics look good but he's had it for sale for months. I haven't called him yet but was planning to do so in the coming week.

I've been looking at Ultra 150s for the last couple of years but just haven't pulled the trigger yet. I see quite a few of the older red skis but very few of the newer green and white skis. 12 hrs sounds good but $3995 seems a bit high (skis tend to go for less money here in Florida) and the fact that it hasn't sold yet also bothers me. What do you say?

BTW, I do all of my own wrenching and got real intimate with a couple of 1996 Sea Doo XPs last spring. Did a top end job(with replacement jugs since mine were freeze cracked) on one and completely replumbed both skis' fuel systems. Rebuilt 4 carbs and got both non-running skis back on the water . What a blast they are!

12 hours since new, or 12 hours since overhaul? If it is since overhaul, who did it and why kind of parts did they use?

Steve, I've been wondering if it's 12 hrs since new as well. It'll be one of the first questions I ask him.

I'm leery of rebuilt 1200s (Ultra 150) because they've got nikasil plated cylinders from the factory. From what I understand, you would want that done after a bore and honing job.

Thats a fair price if its new and not rebuilt new. But it does come with a double trailer worth about $600-750 depending on condition. So my opinion its a reasonable price since I was offered $4300 for my 04 with 90 hours on a painted trailer. I turned it down cus I just finished getting it looking great.

Thanks for the reply, wake. Any chance you have a GPS top speed of your 04?

Yea with some mods on ride plate, polished intake grate, extended nozzle I ran 69.3mph on GPS. The ski was on a weight diet with minimal gas and oil and a 220lb rider.

I wouldn't plan on a "sign and ride" - being that the ski is 7 years old already.

If you do lay your money down, I would certainly change the oil injection lines as they become brittle with age. I'd be curious what the fuel was like after so many years of sitting with so little use, and if someone tried to flush that shit through the carbs - it could lead to a semi-solidified Methanol Content nightmare - even though the pump advertises <10% that shit still causes issues in terms of aging fuel.

The thru-hull seal may also be showing signs of cracking and even though this is not a BIG expense, it's a PITA to R&R as the engine needs to be lifted to accomplish it.

    Good Luck !!!

I changed both sets of oil injection lines in both of my Yamahas 2 years ago. I've got plenty of that line as well as Oetiker clamps left over assuming that the Ultra uses the same size line.

In any case, I won't be paying this kind of money for a ski without a test ride. A compression check is an absolute must as well.

If you end up buying it and changing the oil lines, do one at a time. DON'T MIX THEM UP! It makes a difference where they go!
