    Gauge cluster issues

Tell me what you think. I'm having issues getting my cluster to turn on. I know it works, we tried it on a different ski. I have tried every combination of ecu, gauges, and mpems, even a different hood harness. I cleaned all the plugs going from the mpem to the cluster. There is 12v all the way to the cluster, and the ground is good. The only codes my candoo shows is the cluster communication code. Any ideas?

without other details, the only things I can think of is that cluster wiring to the ecu is faulty or the cluster isn't married to the ECU..but I assume with a candoo in hand you might have already tried marrying....

it's tedious, but checking the entire routes from cluster plug may be the only way to solve this one

Do "05" ecu and clusters need to be married? I've got 12v at the cluster plug on the purple wire using the black as a ground. 2.2ish v on the white wire. Any idea what the other 2 white wires are for on the cluster harness? Click image for larger version.

for the moment the question is:

what model ski is this cluster from and what model ski are you trying to run it on.

I don't know all that much about cluster mechanics, as for me it's always been a plug and prya deal, but I do know that the cluster has to get some kind of message from the ecu to display hours and supported features (it's a two way communication deal)

    so:

what ski is the cluster working on?
what ski are you trying to run it on?

the candoo guys may be able to help if the cluster needs a new data image ( you need buds for that)

It's an 05 RXP. It is the cluster and MPEM from the 05. The ecu is a riva. All of my stuff will work in an 04 RXP with an 05 motor. None of the parts from the other ski make mine work. That makes me think it is the harness but the power and grounds are there.

might be getting power and ground but it's not communicating.

found some troubleshooting info on this in the forum...

    ---------------
Check system circuits 1-10 and 1-11.
Check for 12 volts between pins 7 and 8 on the instrument cluster harness connector.
    Check 1A fuse.
    --------------

sure glad I'm not dealing with this....

The only cluster stuff I've dealt with have been some flooded ones, which a direct model for model replacement dealt with nicely

What I do know about it is that everything has to be "right"*..or it's a disappointing day

*The definition of right must be determined by those wiser than I....

I'd suggest scanning the forum for 1681 errors ..I found that helpful looking info in under 2 minutes

Was the Riva ECU "activated" for this ski, or the other one? Not sure if that would have anything to do with it, Just thinking out loud...

Might try a stock ECU?? ..

The ecu came from another member here. It worked fine on the other ski, tried a stock ecu and nothing. I'm going to take apart the harness, clean and reinspect.
