    Honda F12x Big Turbo Lag

    Hi Guys

Iím new to the forum. Thank you everyone for all your help. The ski is a 2005 model with a 107 hours. The problem is that it takes forever for the turbo to spool. Only starts to make boost at around 5200 rpm. It is very slow out the blocks but top speed is fine around 61/62 mph. there is also no fault codes on the ecu. So I went online and found a brilliant website called GREENHULK! So I see that most people having problems with the turbo is the waste gate actuator being stuck. So I checked and mine is stuck in the closed position. So why dint I get an over boost warning and why does it take so long for the turbo to spool? Maybe the waste gate itself is not seating properly?

    Thank you in advance.

I was also thinking the plugs may be the problem. I managed the get the actuator unstuck and working properly again. I have new plugs I will change them and see if I can get my hands on some seafoam.

Sounds like a sick turbo to me . if its not within specs its probably not building boost as quick as it should.. And 6k sounds like u might not be building enough boost on top end .
A healthy ski should rev above 6k in 2-3 sec from dead stop . if not sooner . hope this points u in correct dirrection

I’m also starting to think the wastegate is not seating properly. I checked the compressor wheel and it is still in perfect condition and the bearings still feel very good. So if there is something wrong with the turbo it is on the turbine / exhaust side. Also checked there are no boost leaks.

pop the intake off the turbo and check for any shaft play

i contemplated it being the turbo in the other thread but everyone says these turbos are good forever on those skis

I did check the bearings and there is no play whatsoever. I have a Seat Cupra tdi with a big turbo (compared to a standard one. LOL!) it has a gt20 compressor wheel with a gt17 turbine and this thing have a lot of turbo lag but it makes 215hp and it is only a 1900cc 4 cylinder 8 valve diesel engine.. The thing is the ski is bone stock and it’s got more lag then the car. I know the turbo on the car is a variable vane turbo but still the lag on the ski is ridiculous. That is why I am saying I think the wastegate is leaking / not seating properly because the compressor wheel is in perfect condition and the bearings also and no errors reported by the ecu. The other thing is the wastegate was stuck close not just kept closed by the actuator but rusted solidly in the close position and I dint get a overboost warning. Is there any way to check requested vs actual boost on the ecu with something like a “vag com cable”? Otherwise the next step is to take off the turbo.
